Kevin De Bruyne could be set for a swift return to the Premier League with Manchester City believed to be stepping up their interest in the Belgium midfielder after his strong performances this season for current club Wolfsburg.

With Wolfsburg currently second in the Bundesliga table and a healthy seven-point gap to third-placed Borussia Monchengladbach, the club harbour ambitions of challenging for the latter stages in Europe next season, and see De Bruyne as a key figure for their future plans.

However, with interest coming from City as well as European heavyweights Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, his agent Patrick de Koster has slapped a £40m price tag on his head if clubs want to sign the 23-year-old this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, City will step up their interest in the hope of beating the likes of Bayern and PSG and land De Bruyne's signature in the summer.

“Clubs who are ready to bid 30million euros for Kevin have no sense of reality,” de Koster said last week. “A player like Kevin has a market value of some €50million, €55m or even €60m by now.”

De Bruyne only made nine appearances for Chelsea

Should the German club decide to sell, they stand to make a considerable profit on De Bruyne, having paid Chelsea £16.7m for him in January 2014. Having made just nine appearances for the Blues, the Belgium international made his loan move with Wolfsburg permanent and has already scored 14 goals this season.

Chelsea have also been linked with a return move for De Bruyne, although it would be unlikely for them to launch a transfer bid to bring back a former player again having re-signed Nemanja Matic last season for considerably more than they let him leave for.
