Manchester City transfer news: Leroy Sane undergoes medical ahead of £35m move as Schalke confirm departure
Sane checked in to a Manchester hotel on Monday ahead of his medical
Manchester City are close to completing a £35m move for Germany forward Leroy Sane following confirmation from Schalke that the 20-year-old has flown to Manchester to finalise his transfer.
Sane, who made one appearance for Germany during their run to the Euro 2016 semi-finals, had been due to join his Schalke team-mates at the club’s pre-season training camp in Austria on Monday.
But with City now prepared to meet the Bundesliga outfit’s £35m valuation of the player, Sane has checked into a Manchester hotel ahead of undergoing a medical prior to completion of his move.
Schalke tweeted confirmation of the youngster‘s departure on Monday morning: “Leroy Sané is currently in Manchester and will not be travelling with Schalke to the training camp.”
Despite already adding Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito and Oleksandr Zinchenko to his squad this summer since arriving as successor to Manuel Pellegrini, City manager Pep Guardiola admitted during the club’s tour of China last week that Sane and Everton defender John Stones remained priority targets.
But while Everton are refusing to budge on their £50m-valuation of Stones – City are only prepared to pay £40m for the England international – Schalke have now accepted Sane’s desire to move to the Etihad Stadium.
The youngster is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in German football, with former Bayern Munich coach Guardiola noting Sane’s development with Schalke last season, when he helped the club claim a fifth-place finish in the Bundesliga.
