MANCHESTER UNITED BOUND...

There are conflicting reports about the transfer status of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels this morning.

The Daily Mirror report that United have bid a whopping £35million to bring the World Cup winner to Old Trafford. With Jurgen Klopp's team languishing in the Bundesliga's relegation zone Louis van Gaal wants to take advantage of their current plight and has apparently made an offer for his long-term target.

However, Hummels' father and agent Hermann said the defender will not leave in this window. "There is nothing to it," he told Sky News Germany.

United are facing competition for Arsenal for Hummels' team-mate Ilkay Gundogan, the German midfielder is believed to be available for around £16m.

Despite the signing of Victor Valdes yesterday and the presence of David De Gea, reports from Danish media outlet BT suggest that United are also interested in Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul. This one seems highly unlikely but the report also suggests that Anders Lindegaard will go the other way - when was the last time a swap deal went through?

THE DEAL'S OFF...

Aston Villa centre-back Ron Vlaar has picked up a serious knee injury that will rule him out for the next six weeks, signalling an end to United's interest in the Dutch defender.

A potential battle with Chelsea for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane will have to wait for the summer, according to the Daily Star.

Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman has told Sky Italia that he wants to honour his contract in Italy and stay with the Serie A club. He is "not talking to anyone else", he said.

COMPLICATIONS...

Uncertainty over the future of Radamel Falcao will likely mean that talks with David De Gea over a new contract will likely wait until the summer, according to the Daily Telegraph. The Star reports that United will double De Gea's money and offer him £140,00-a-week.
