Raphael Varane’s change of number at Real Madrid suggests he will not be moving to Manchester United any time soon, according to the Metro.
The France international, who missed this summer’s European Championships through injury, has been handed the no 5 shirt at Real, once famously worn by head coach Zinedine Zidane.
That, apparently, is enough to indicate that Varane will stay on at the Santiago Bernabeu. It could, however, increase the chance of United snaring another target.
Paul Pogba – who else? – has been touted as the heir to Zidane’s old number by sections of the Spanish press over the past few months.
So, does Varane's switch therefore suggest that his international team-mate Pogba won’t be off to La Liga this summer? It's a stretch, to say the very least.
Pogba, meanwhile, is still enjoying himself in Los Angeles.
According to Marca, his agent Mino Raiola has set a deadine of the end of July for the Juventus midfielder's future to be resolved.
Guillermo Varela could be out the door at Old Trafford.
The Uruguayan looked shaky on too many occasions when he was drafted into Louis van Gaal’s side to provide cover at left-back last season.
It seems Jose Mourinho has decided to dispense with his services and, according to Kicker, Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in signing the 23-year-old.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is another who could leave the club but if he does, he'll leave with the remaining two years on his contract paid in full.
“Bastian will cost every penny of the £14million still owed to him on his two-years left," a source told The Sun.
“He has had talks with Jose over his future but it is still uncertain at this stage. The new few weeks will reveal more."
