Arsenal's Mathieu Debuchy is set to join Ligue 1 side Bordeaux on loan until the end of the season.

The Arsenal defender is desperate to leave the Emirates having failed to make an impact this season, and looks to be heading for France.

Manchester United are also reported to be interested in his signature.

Louis van Gaal has five defenders on the sidelines and, while United have been linked to a number of players on transfer deadline day, the defence is the area of the pitch he is most likely to address.

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, today confirmed Debuchy could leave the Emirates. “It is a possibility,” Wenger said. “At the moment it doesn’t look likely but it is still a possibility. Yes [it will be a loan] because it’s impossible to conclude a permanent move now.”

The Daily Mirror reports United have lodged an interest in Debuchy, who is also wanted by Aston Villa and Sunderland. Any club that signs Debuchy will have to pay a £1.5m loan fee, and cover his £60,000-a-week wages.
