Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba rejected a £62m move to Chelsea, according to Italian newspaper Gazetta dello Sport.

The transfer, which would have seen the French youngster earn an annual salary of £8.7m, would also have led to Brazilian playmaker Oscar moving in the opposite direction.

Despite Jose Mourinho's summer-long pursuit of the 22-year-old, Pogba decided against a move a few days before the transfer window closed.

The former Manchester United player, who moved to Juventus in 2012, opted to stay in Turin and remain as the Italian giants' talisman.

Following the recent exit of Carlos Tevez to Boca Juniors, Pogba has been awarded the club's hallowed number 10 shirt, worn by Bianconieri legends such as Michel Platini, Roberto Baggio and Alessandro Del Piero.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea, whose central midfielders have struggled for form in the opening weeks of this season will move again for the Frenchman once the window re-opens in January.
