Petr Cech is set to become an Arsenal player later today with the north London club ready to confirm his transfer, it has been reported.

The Telegraph claim that the 33-year-old goalkeeper will end his 11-year stay with Chelsea in order to join Arsenal in an £11m switch, with the Gunners clearly determined to strengthen their options between the sticks.

Cech wants to leave Stamford Bridge in order to give himself more first team chances after losing his place in the starting line-up to Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois this season following his return from a three-year loan spell with Atletico Madrid.

The Czech Republic international wants to remain in London as his family is settled in the capital, and with Spurs already having Hugo Lloris on their books, Arsenal were realistically the only club on London in a position to move for him.

Having won his fourth Premier League title last season, Cech’s loyalty to the Blues is the sole reason why Chelsea are willing to strengthen a direct rival who could be challenging for their crown come May next year.
