Arsenal have been warned off making a bid for Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after they were linked with a £28.7m bid.

The Gunners have so far proven to be frugal with their summer spending, having signed just one player for the first-team in the form of Petr Cech in a £10m deal from rivals Chelsea. The club have been linked with a move for a striker this season in a bid to help Olivier Giroud share the workload, with Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain cropping up on the radar once more.

However, reports suggested that Arsenal had seen a £28.7m offer for Aubameyang rejected by the Bundesliga club and have been warned off making another after being in formed that the Gabon international is not for sale.

Aubameyang proved his prowess in front of goal last season with 26 goals to his name, but his form has led to suggestions that a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.

The 26-year-old is seen as an important figure in Dortmund’s future plans after they allowed Italian striker Ciro Immobile to leave the club in order to complete a move to Seville. With fears that a number of players could follow Jürgen Klopp out of the Signul Iduna Park exit, Dortmund are eager to secure Aubameyang to a new deal and ease fears among fans that they keep selling their best players.

The club’s sporting director Michael Zorc has stressed that the Bundesliga club will “block” any fresh approach made by the Gunners, and reiterated that Aubameyang is not for sale despite talk of a £30m return bid given that he has three years remaining on the contract that he signed in 2013 after completing a move from French side St Etienne.

"We rely heavily on Aubameyang - that is no secret,” Zorc told German publication Kicker.

"I've heard a lot about this (a transfer to Arsenal) but I can say very clearly that it is blocked for him. He is simply not for sale."
