Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is convinced he is the man to return Radamel Falcao to his best form and is the 'driving force' behind a deal to sign the striker.

Falcao suffered a torrid season on loan at Manchester United last season, scoring just four goals and adding four assists.

He started only 17 matches in all competitions and struggled to break into the starting line-up in 2015. United had an option to sign the 29-year-old on a permanent deal after the end of the loan spell but decided not to take it.

According to Goal UK, Mourinho is extremely keen on the striker, and believes he can return him back to his best.

Falcao wants to stay in the Premier League and is desperate to push through a move to Chelsea, before Colombia start their Copa America campaign on 14 June, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The striker, who will captain Colombia at the tournament, is happy to take a pay cut to move to Stamford Bridge, with Monaco open to a loan move or a permanent transfer.

His high wages mean that Monaco will not comply with Financial Fair Play regulations; Monaco could also look to take a player in exchange.

With Didier Drogba no longer a Chelsea player and both Diego Costa and Loic Remy injury-prone, Mourinho wants a third striker to maintain his assault on the Premier League and in Europe.

The Portuguese believes Falcao could return to top form now that he is acclimatised to the Premier League and has had a relatively injury-free year.

Chelsea already have a Colombian in the squad, Juan Cuadrado, who gets on well with the striker from their time in the national team.

Falcao arrived at Old Trafford with a record of 156 goals in 200 appearances.
