Sami Khedira to Arsenal? Arsene Wenger coy on Real Madrid midfielder but admits there could still be two new signings this summer

The Gunners have been linked with the World Cup winner all summer

Keeping his cards typically close to his chest, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken for the first time about the reported interest in Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira. While denying that he had made a bid for the German World Cup winner, Wenger did hint that the Gunners have made an enquiry.

During his post-match press conference after Arsenal's 5-1 victory over Benfica at the Emirates Cup, Wenger claimed that he had not already made an offer for the German, but gave a cagey response when pushed if he had enquired for the player who is entering the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu.

"What is enquire for you?" he responded. "I don't know. If I read the newspapers, he is available."

Wenger did admit in his earlier televised interview on BT Sport that he is still looking to bring in at least one more player this summer.

"Who's next? I don't know," Wenger said when asked about possible new arrivals. "There could still be one signing, maximum of two. If a good opportunity comes up we might still do it, but at the moment we are not close to signing anybody."

Arsenal beat Benfica at the Emirates Stadium thanks to four goals from Yaya Sanogo and one from Joel Campbell. The Gunners face Monaco in the pre-season competition this afternoon.
