Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United's hopes of signing Sami Khedira in the January transfer window look slim after Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti ruled out a mid-season move.

The Germany international will be out of contract at the end of the season and the midfielder's suitors had been hoping Real Madrid would look to cash in before he leaves for free.

However, Ancelotti has ruled that out, and revealed that the Champions League holders have not given up on convincing him to stay at the Bernabeu.

He said: "We have until June to reach an agreement with him. If he wants to sign an extension, the club will renew him. If not, he will leave the team at the end of the season."

Khedira could feature at Anfield on Wednesday when Real Madrid take on Liverpool in the Champions League. The 27-year-old appears to have recovered from the knee injury which has sidelined him since September.

He was an unused substitute in the team's 5-0 victory at Levante on Saturday and Ancelotti added: "Khedira has come back really well, he trained with the squad and he's ready to play. Of course he's not in optimal condition after missing the last 40 days, but he's an important player for us."

Khedira will be allowed to talk to other clubs in January about a summer move.
