Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has branded the reports linking the club with a move to Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos as "rubbish".

Like his Real counterpart Rafa Benitez, the Dutch coach has moved to deny reports that Ramos is a target for the club, although he has since admitted that the club are interested in "at least two" more players joining before the start of the season.

Spanish newspaper AS reported that United are to make a second bid of £42million for the centre-back soon.

Ramos has been linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer, although the speculation has been tempered by the fact that the Spanish international appeared to be angling for an improved contract offer.

During a heated press conference on Thursday night, Van Gaal said: "There is so much in the papers but it is not true.

Van Gaal then pointed to a journalist in the press conference and said: "He is writing always rubbish, and then it is true. In the media it is true. No, it is not true."
