Sergio Ramos transfer latest: Real Madrid defender drops Premier League hint amid Manchester United talk

The Spain international has also been linked with Chelsea

Sergio Ramos used a controversial penalty decision during last night's Madrid derby to say he 'preferred' the Premier League to Spain and with it spark talk of a transfer to England.

The Real Madrid defender was adjudged to have fouled Atletico Madrid defender Raul Garcia during last night's Copa del Rey first-leg. It led to a spot-kick and the first goal in Atletico's 2-0 win at the Vicente Calderon.

Ramos was fuming and, perhaps having missed the recent debate about Premier League referees, afterwards suggested the decision wouldn't have been given in England.

"I'm not going to talk about controversial issues and certainly not that incident," he told AS. "The only thing I will say is that, with every passing day, I prefer the English Premier League.

"What am I talking about? Obviously not about the ball-boys ... the style of play, refereeing. People enjoy watching that competition. When one loses, it’s easy to focus on the refereeing decisions."

Ramos had already been linked with a move to the Premier League and his latest comments are only likely to increase speculation.

Manchester United are understood to be keen on the 28-year-old Spain international whilst Chelsea would also be interested as they eye a long-term replacement for John Terry.
