Tottenham transfer news: Spurs 'offered' Sporting Lisbon right-back Miguel Lopes on season-long loan as Kyle Naughton nears exit

Portuguese defender spent last season on loan with Lyon and could replace Naughton who is closing on a move to Swansea

Tottenham could add Sporting Lisbon right-back Miguel Lopes to their squad for the coming season after the Portuguese defender was offered on a season-long loan to the Premier League club.

Lopes looks to be on his way out of Sporting after spending last season on loan with French side Lyon, but he only made 16 appearances for the Ligue 1 side and they elected against signing him on a permanent deal.

New Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has not delved into the transfer market as much as he would’ve been expected to, having completed just two new signings in the shape of former Swansea pair Michel Vorm and Ben Davies.

However, supporters of the North London club could be about to see the new faces at the club increase significantly, with a loan move for Lopes rumoured to coincide with a double-swoop for Southampton duo Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez.

Lopes does have international experience having made four appearances for Portugal, and his club career has taken him across his homeland having played for Benfica B, Operario, Rio Ave and Porto as well as loan spells with Braga and Spanish side Real Betis.

While Lopes is equally adept at playing as a left-back, Pochettino is believed to be interested in him as cover for the right-flank with Kyle Naughton nearing a White Hart Lane exit amid talk of a move to Swansea. Should a deal go through for 25-year-old Englishman, it will represent the third time the two clubs have completed business this summer, after the reported £4m deal for Vorm and the swap deal for Davies that saw Gylfi Sigurdsson return to the Swans.
