Transfer news: Arsenal monitoring situation as Mirko Vucinic's move to Inter Milan stalls

Arsene Wenger asks the Italian club to keep him up-to-date over the elongated transfer saga

Arsenal have asked Italian leaders Juventus to keep them informed of Mirko Vucinic’s situation as the striker’s transfer to Inter Milan neared collapse today.

The 30-year-old had been close to a switch to the San Siro in a part-exchange deal for Inter's Colombian attacking-midfielder Fredy Guarin.

It is believed that all parties agreed personal terms, with Vucinic even passing a medical, until Inter decided to demand a further £4.1m.

As a result both players are currently in limbo and, the Arsene Wenger is thought to have indicated that he remains open to discussing a loan bid for the Montenegro international.

According to the Evening Standard, Juventus had originally suggested they were only interested in a permanent transfer, valuing Vucinic at around £8m, but Arsenal preferred a temporary arrangement.

With Vucinic keen to leave Turin,  it remains to be seen whether Juve’s position will change if an agreement with Inter cannot be reached. Tottenham are also thought to be monitoring the situation, but they would also prefer a loan deal, with Jermain Defoe set to join Toronto  at the end of next month.

Arsene Wenger maintained last weekend that Arsenal were not “especially interested” in Vucinic, but at that stage it seemed certain he would be joining Inter.

He was left out of Juventus’ side for last night’s Coppa Italia quarter-final defeat at Roma. Arsenal old boy Gervinho scored the only goal.
