Transfer news: Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits he 'can't get' Gonzalo Higuain amid reports of £50m bid for Napoli striker

Jose Mourinho has denied reports that Chelsea have seen a £50m bid for Gonzalo Higuain rejected - but stopped short of saying a move wouldn't be made in the summer.

Reports emerged earlier today against a background of problems in front of goal for Chelsea as Mourinho attempts to recapture the Premier League title.

The trio of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba have struggled to provide consistency in front of goal this season, although the former two have found the back of the net in each of their last league starts.

Despite this, it was claimed Mourinho has seen a staggering £50m bid turned down for Higuain, who only joined the Naples outfit this season after he completed a £34m transfer from Real Madrid.

However, Mourinho today admitted: “He’s a player I know I can’t get. He moved from Real Madrid to Napoli six months ago, is doing very well, adapted to Italy. Napoli is not a club that sells.

“They want to win the Scudetto and Europa League. Why should we be interested in someone that is impossible to come?”

The Argentinian worked under Mourinho’s leadership during their time at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the Portuguese spending three seasons in the Spanish capital before returning to his former club, Chelsea. While he was away from Stamford Bridge, the decision was made to bring in Torres for the same fee reportedly offered for Higuain, and while the Spaniard has scored his share of goals, he is yet to justify his sizable valuation.

With Mourinho failing to state a move would not be made in the summer for Higuain, it is likely speculation will return.
