Transfer news: Inter Milan confirm their interest in Tottenham's forgotten club-record signing Erik Lamela

Inter Milan have signalled their interest in forgotten Tottenham striker Erik Lamela as they look to continue their summer revamp following the addition of former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic.
Lamela joined Spurs from Italian side Roma last summer in a club-record £30m deal, but has scored just one goal in 17 appearances last season and has not made an appearance since December.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a summer exit, although it remains to be seen if he features in the new Tottenham manager’s plans once a replacement for Tim Sherwood is appointed, with either Mauricio Pochettino or Frank de Boer set to be confirmed in the next 48 hours.
Should they feel that Lamela is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane, Inter would certainly be a viable option for his having impressed during his two-year spell in Italy.
Inter’s president Erik Thohir confirmed the club’s interest, but admitted that it will depend on whether Spurs are willing to sell the player as well as other moves in the transfer market.
“Walter Mazzarri likes Lamela but everything depends on the transfer market,” Thohir said.
“Some report about our interest in [Edin] Dzeko and [Alvaro] Morata, but if their clubs don't want to sell these players we won't do anything.
“In about two weeks we hope to be able to announce a new player.
“Mazzarri believes in our plan and we must sit around a table to talk about his renewal.
“I want the coach to work mostly with young players, the (average) age of players must be around 26 and a half years old. Football now is different to 15 years ago.”
Inter will be targeting a return to the Champions League next season after they finished fifth in Serie A, with Thohir signalling their intent to make a number of major signings this summer in order to challenge champions Juventus, who have won the Italian league for the past three seasons.
