January transfer window 2018 shuts: Ten of the top moves

Highly rated Ajax youngster Justin Kluivert has announced that he will not be signing a new contract with the club, after they reportedly tried to sell him to Tottenham behind his back.

The 19-year-old forward has enjoyed another fine season in the Eredivisie, scoring ten goals in 27 appearances.

Manchester United are among the clubs interested in signing the teenager, who is the son of Barcelona legend Patrick, as are Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.

But negotiations between Ajax and Spurs appear to have angered Kluivert, who has pledged not to sign a new deal with the Dutch side.

“I'm not renewing my contract at Ajax. Too much has happened,”Kluivert told Volkstrant.

“The decreasing morale, lack of confidence, trying to sell me to Tottenham without me knowing.

“I heard about that at the last minute. That says nothing about Ajax, but about the people in the club.

“They do want they want. I get that feeling again, they do what they want.”

Kluivert’s latest round of contract negotiations with Ajax are believed to have broken down over his demands to become the highest-paid player at the club. Kluivert, who is represented by Mino Raiola, demanded €1.5m a year – in excess of Ajax’s wage ceiling of €1m.

But in the interview Kluivert said instability at the club – and not his wage demands – were to blame for his stance.

“Ajax change coaches too easily. They do not really get a chance,” he added.

“You notice our trainer that he is not really comfortable. You also saw that with Marcel Keizer.

“That's what boys feel. You can see how trainers behave, how they express themselves, even in the press. It feels unstable.

“The team was very close at the beginning of the season. That is no longer the case.”
