Transfer talk: Chelsea and Manchester City miss-out on Edinson Cavani as PSG 'prepare to announce signing' of Napoli striker

Uruguayan has been subject of a move to the Premier League but now looks set to join Ligue 1 champions according to reports in Spain

Chelsea and Manchester City look set to miss out on Napoli’s Edinson Cavani following reports in Spain that Paris Saint-Germain will announce the capture of the Uruguayan in the next few hours.

Cavani has been the No 1 target throughout the summer so far, with Real Madrid also linked with the striker as Europe’s top clubs battled for his signature.

But Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting that Cavani will be announced as PSG’s latest signing later today in a deal worth £55 million.

The Ligue 1 champions have a good relation with the Italian club following the previous transfer of Ezequiel Lavezzi to the French capital, and they are expected to follow it up with the signing of Cavani.

It is being said that Cavani has agreed terms that will see him paid a staggering £8.5m per season to ply his trade at the Parc des Princes.

The news will come as a blow to the two English clubs, who had harboured hopes of signing Cavani, who netted 36 times last season in all competitions.

However, Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis’ refusal to accept anything below the buy-out clause for Cavani seemd to scare both Chelsea and City away from the deal, leaving PSG to negotiate a deal with the Naples club.
