Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been linked with two La Liga defenders this morning.

The Daily Mirror report that Villarreal centre-back Gabriel Paulista, 24, says it would be "excellent" to move to the Emirates, but could face work permit issues to move to north London.

The Brazilian is interesting several teams across the continent and has been the star turn for the Yellow Submarine's defence, who have the joint-third best record in La Liga.

Should he not be allowed a move to England then Arsene Wenger could turn to Valencia's Nicolas Otamendi, 26, a much more established player and will command a bigger fee.

Liverpool have decided against a move to bring Divock Origi home from his loan spell early, after Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert were on target as Aston Villa, report the Daily Express.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has backed his current crop of strikers, which should be bolstered by the return of Daniel Sturridge in a couple of weeks.

However, the Reds are leading the race to sign Ipswich teenager Teddy Bishop, who is being chased by a number of Premier League clubs.

The 18-year-old has been superb for Mick McCarthy's promotion-chasing side and is rated at around £10m; the Mirror report that Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham are also interested in the midfielder.

Tony Pulis has made a £4m bid to bring Wigan winger Callum McManaman to West Brom, report the Daily Telegraph, but the Lactics want £6m.

Swansea have put in a £4m bid for Norwich left-back Martin Olsson.

Roberto Martinez is desperate to show Kevin Mirallas they can match his Champions League ambitions - the Belgian has attracted interest from clubs across Europe as he has only 18 months left on his contract. Tottenham are linked with the Belgian winger, according to the Evening Standard.

Crystal Palace are linked with Blackburn Rovers striker Rudy Gestede, with Glenn Murray to move to Reading to make way for him.
