Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer Victor Valdes an escape route from Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho is understood to be on the look out for an extra stopper after regular No 1 Thibaut Courtois suffered an injury that will rule him out for the next few months.

Reports from Italian publication CalcioMercato suggest Valdes is being viewed as a viable option.

The former Barcelona goalkeeper is out of favour at Manchester United having allegedly refused to play for the Under-21s last season. Louis van Gaal has indicated the Spaniard will not play under him again.

For Valdes to make the move before the transfer window opens again in January, Manchester United would need to cancel the final year of his contract at Old Trafford. Reaching such an agreement could be complicated, with potential compensation needing to be paid to Valdes.

Asmir Beogovic, signed from Stoke to replace Petr Cech, is the first-choice pick at Chelsea during Courtois' absence. Mourinho has just 21-year-old Jamal Blackman in reserve.
