Wenger 'happy' for Adebayor to leave

By Gordon Tynan

Emmanuel Adebayor
Many Arsenal fans would be happy to see the back of Adebayor after his languid displays this season. One of his possible destinations should he leave the Emirates is Stamford Bridge. The future of Didier Drogba is still uncertain and should the Ivorian leave, Adebayor is seen as the ideal replacement. Wenger said earlier this year: "If I feel that a player should go, or could go, why not sell him to one of the other top four?"

Adebayor could be leaving Arsenal and heading for Milan

The Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has said he has talked to Arsenal about the possibility of signing Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Rossoneri's first choice remains Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko but with the Bundesliga club saying he is not for sale, Milan are starting to look at alternatives.

"If Dzeko is [available] we will start talking sums. Adebayor and [Sevilla striker] Luis Fabiano are the alternatives. For Adebayor there has been a telephone call, during which [Arsenal's manager Arsène] Wenger was friendly," said Galliani.

Meanwhile, the Pinnacle consortium leading the chase to gain control of League One's Southampton are now prepared to accept a 10-point penalty in order for the deal to go ahead.

The process of the takeover had been delayed by the Football League's insistence that the Saints' new owners do not appeal against the 10-point penalty imposed upon them for legal irregularities.

However, it now looks as though they are resigned to the terms as they try to push through a deal.

Wolves defender Jody Craddock has signed a new one-year contract with the Premier League newcomers while, north of the border, Motherwell have offered Jim Gannon the vacant manager's job. Gannon, 40, has verbally accepted the post.
