Yaya Toure has eased fears that he is looking to leave Manchester City, but has admitted that everything his agent has said about his future is true after it emerged he is unhappy with his treatment as the club failed to acknowledge his birthday.

Toure’s agent Dimitry Seluk has claimed that the club’s failure to acknowledge Toure’s 31st birthday – in principle to shake his hand – has led to the midfielder growing unhappy and undervalued with life at the Etihad.

But Toure took to his Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon to joke about the situation in claiming that his birthday card from the club arrived today, before going on to say he will clarify his position after the World Cup in July.

“Thanks for all the birthday messages today. Card from City just arrived... Must have got lost in the post. Haha,” Toure posted on his Twitter account.

“Jokes aside. Please do not take words that do not come out of MY mouth seriously. Judge my commitment to @MCFC by my performances.

"My agent was trying to make a point here on my behalf, joke aside. It seems important for me to make a statement..i am going to do so.

"Everything dimitry said is true . He speaks for me . I will give an interview after world cup to explain."

Toure’s latest comments come after Seluk told The Sun that the 31-year-old could seek a move after becoming “angered” with his treatment at the club.

“There's a big possibility Yaya will leave this summer,” said Seluk.

“What happened at his birthday meant the club don't care about him. It was proof.

“In a normal team, his team-mates and club would at least give him good wishes.

“He's very upset and he started thinking of leaving the club. And he will leave if things carry on like this.

“It's not a question of money or contract, believe me. He has everything he needs. For Yaya what is the most important thing is human relationships.

“When your best worker has his birthday from time to time it's not bad to shake his hand. To make him feel valued and appreciated. They don't give any attention to Yaya.”

He added when speaking to the BBC: “None of them shook his hand on his birthday. It's really sick you know.

“He got a cake but when it was Roberto Carlos's birthday, the president of Anzhi gave him a Bugatti.

“I don't expect City to present Yaya with a Bugatti, we only asked that they shook his hand and said 'we congratulate you'. It is the minimum they must do when it is his birthday and the squad is all together.

“It is an important human relationship to shake hands and say 'happy birthday' but nobody did it to Yaya. It shows they don't care about him.

“I hear one newspaper has written that City congratulated him from Twitter but this is a joke. It is better they don't put anything on Twitter if they are not saying anything to him.

“The club's owners ate a 100kg cake after winning the Premier League this season but when they and the players were all together, none of them shook his hand on his birthday.

“If they don't respect him, then easy - Yaya will leave. No problem.”

However, Seluk’s comments look to be false given that Manchester City sent a tweet to Toure that each of their 1.73m followers were able to see on the day of his birthday on 13 May, and they also posted a video shortly after the Premier League celebrations that captured Toure’s birthday presentations.

While on a flight to Abu Dhabi for an end-of-season friendly, cabin crew presented Toure with a special Manchester City themed birthday cake, although the midfielder looked unmoved as he stared at his laptop with his headphones on.

Not even the sight of Samir Nasri clapping along next to him was able to draw a reaction.
