Liverpool Women goalkeeper Fran Kitching suffered a horrific cut to the face while training last week, and has called the wound “the worst injury I’ve ever had”.

Liverpool achieved their first league victory of the season on Sunday when they beat Bristol City 1-0 to escape the relegation zone, but Kitching was absent due to her injury.

The 21-year-old took to Instagram to address the situation before her team-mates took to the pitch.

“After a lot of swelling and pain (and looking like a cabbage patch doll) I can finally say I’m feeling a lot better,” she wrote. “I’m supporting [my team-mates] every minute from home.”

Kitching added that she was “ready to get back out there”.

Kitching signed for Liverpool from Sheffield United in 2018. She previously played for Chelsea and spent a loan spell at Watford while with the blues.
