Bob Bradley was fired as the United States coach last night. He had been in the job for five years but had been facing mounting pressure after the US underperformed at last month's Concacaf Gold Cup, despite making the final, which they lost to Mexico.

"We want to thank Bob Bradley for his service and dedication to US Soccer," US Soccer president Sunil Gulati said. Bradley led the US to success in the 2007 Gold Cup and to last year's World Cup finals, where they drew 1-1 with England before going out to Ghana in the second round.
