The World Cup in Brazil is coming into view and everyone is hoping this summer's carnival can take its place among some of the great tournaments of the past, but who will be the star of the show?

With 91 days to go until things kick-off, check out our latest instalment of 100 players to look out for at the competition below.

91. Carlo Costly (Honduras)

This 31-year-old is another journeyman of the footballing world having featured for 10 clubs in the last eight years, but his goalscoring record at international level is certainly not one to be sniffed at. 30 goals in 68 games for Honduras make him their key man this summer, even if progression through the group is a relatively unachievable goal with France, Switzerland and Ecuador in their way. Despite his father being an ex-international defender, Costly went the other way when he eventually made his breakthrough in the Honduran league – finishing top scorer of the division in his first season for Platense.

A series of transfers saw him head to Poland, England – for a year on loan at Birmingham City, Romania, Mexico and the USA. After finishing a season in the MLS with Houston Dynamo, Costly went 10 months without a club before signing for Veria FC. Even during his exile from professional football, he was a constant figure in the national set up. Being fourth on the all-time list for leading scorer’s for Honduras is proof enough there was method in Honduras’ madness.

He has some making up to do in Brazil this year after missing out on a place in the squad for South Africa through injury. If any of their Group E opponents underestimate him this summer, it may prove costly.

Did you know? Carlo’s father Allan Anthony Costly featured for his country in the 1982 World Cup
