Colin Jackson opened his outdoor campaign with an easy victory in the 110 metres hurdles in Perth, Western Australia.

The world record holder won ahead of Elmar Lichtenneger, the Austrian he defeated for the European indoor 60m gold medal a fortnight ago, by 0.28sec. Taking full advantage of a legal 1.9 metres per second following wind, the Welshman won in 13.31sec.

Australia's Tim Ewen finished third in a time of 13.85.

In Spain, the British Olympian Mark Steinle won the Murcia half-marathon, finishing in 1:03:02.
