Usain Bolt was caught up in the moment after sprinting to World Athletics Championship gold in the 200m when his celebrations were abruptly cut short by an out-of-control cameraman on a segway.

Fans worldwide watched on TV as the Chinese man managed to drive the segway up a barrier that circulates the track, before spinning back into the path of the world's fastest man.

With Bolt playing up to the crowd and his back facing the cameraman, the Jamaican sprinter was blindsided by the cameraman, who took both of them crashing down to the ground.

The crowd in the packed out Bird's Nest gasped collectively, praying that the worst hadn't happened to the star attraction of the World Championships, but Bolt quickly got back to his feet, brushed himself down, smiled and went on his way.

Speaking after the incident, Bolt said: "Accidents happen. I have a few cuts but it is nothing that I have never done to myself in training. I will be all right."

Bolt went on to joke that he was blaming his arch-rival, Justin Gatlin, who he has just beaten for the second time in five days after a narrow victory in the 100m last Sunday.

“The rumour I’m trying to start right now is that Justin Gatlin paid him off,” he said.

Gatlin, who was sitting with Bolt after winning 200m silver, added: “I want my money back. He didn’t complete the job.”
