Manchester Giants lifted a weight from their coach Mark Ingle's shoulders on Saturday night when Clyde Ellis scored 31 points to lead them to their first win of the season, by 91-72 at Derby Storm.

Irishman Ingle, in his debut BBL season, faced being the first coach in Championship history to fail to win a single game in a term, but 10-0 and 12-4 runs enabled them to leapfrog Storm out of bottom place in the Northern Conference with one win from seven games. Durrell Robinson scored 20 points for Storm.

Leicester Riders' recent signing Tim Moore scored 36 points to lead them to a 104-88 win over Northern Conference rivals Edinburgh Rocks at Loughborough University.

Moore, who previously played for Riders' coach Billy Mims at London Leopards, scored eight consecutive points to push Riders 70-61 ahead, while Ted Berry led the Rocks' scoring with 28 points.

Brighton Bears moved to third in the southern conference with a 75-73 home win over Milton Keynes Lions, when Albert White and Sterling Davis shared 10 points in the closing minutes. Davis led all scorers in the game with 25 points, while Reggie Kirk was the Lions' top scorer with 18.

In the BBL Trophy, London Towers recovered from their sixth consecutive midweek defeat in the Euroleague to win their opening game in Group B by beating Newcastle Eagles 110-96 at Crystal Palace.

Towers opened the second half with a 12-2 run for a 72-60 lead and never trailed as Terrell Myers top-scored for them with 23 points.
