London Towers lost the British Basketball League's only unbeaten Championship record with a 78-60 defeat against Chester Jets at Crystal Palace on Saturday night, where the visitors never trailed after starting with an 11-2 run.

The Towers failed to cope with Chester's towering defence and were repeatedly caught on the break as Trey Moore led the Jets' scorers with 21 points, supported by 20 from Calvin Davis and 16 from Shawn Myers. The Jets, who replaced Theo Dixon with fellow-American David Harrison last week, now trail Towers by only one win with a game in hand, ahead of third-placed Brighton Bears after their 95-75 win over Scottish Rocks on Saturday. Steve Lepore led Brighton's scorers with 26 points.

Sheffield Sharks moved ahead of Rocks into fourth place by winning 95-91 at Leicester Riders, where the visitors' Sterling Davis led all scorers with 26 points. The Sharks broke clear with a 6-0 run to lead 83-74. Josh Murray had the highest individual total on Saturday with 36 points for Thames Valley Tigers, but could not prevent their 91-86 defeat at home to Newcastle Eagles.

Milton Keynes Lions have signed former London Towers forward Robert Youngblood, who was due to make his debut at Chester last night. Youngblood also played for the former London Leopards, winning both the League and Cup titles, and in the German Bundesliga. He has a career average of 16 points per game. Birmingham Bullets have signed American Jamie Kendrick. He was due to make his debut last night against Scottish Rocks.

¿ The ninenteen-year-old Sudan-born Londoner, Luol Deng, scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds on his NBA debut for the Chicago Bulls, who lost 111-106 to the New Jersey Nets after double overtime on Friday night.
