Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor: Andre Berto piles on the pressure by saying boxer must 'embarrass' UFC star

Berto is the last man to have fought Mayweather but thinks that McGregor has a good chance of upsetting the undefeated American providing 'he can catch him'

Andre Berto has said that the only way Floyd Mayweather can come out of his fight with Conor McGregor with any credit is if he completely humiliates the UFC star in the boxing ring.

The two men announced last week that they will fight in Las Vegas on August 26, after many months of speculation.

Mayweather, who boasts an unblemished career record of 49-0 and has only touched the canvas once in his career, was immediately made the overwhelming favourite to win the contest by bookmakers around the world, and can be backed at odds of 1-8.

McGregor, by contrast, has never been involved in a professional boxing match before.

And McGregor’s complete lack of experience in the boxing ring means that Mayweather has to “embarrass” his opponent if he is to emerge from the fight with any credit, according to Berto, Mayweather’s most recent opponent.

“For Floyd to win he has to embarrass this man,” Berto told TMZ. “Floyd has to embarrass this man to get any type of credit from me.

“But this fight is great for entertainment. It's going to make a shit load of money. It's definitely going to generate a lot of money and everybody is going to get paid.”

Berto was the last man to fight Mayweather, in September 2015.

Mayweather dominated the contest, landing 56% of the punches thrown and winning via a unanimous decision, with one judge scoring the contest 120-108 in his favour.

But despite Mayweather’s dominant performance in their fight, Berto thinks that McGregor has a good opportunity of becoming the first man to ever stop Money – providing he can land his famous straight left.

“If McGregor catches him, well, he's going to be the king of the world,” he added.

“I'm good friends with McGregor. It's hard to say but it's the fight game and ultimately anything can happen.

“McGregor is going to come in with no fear and shit, he ain't got nothing to lose. And he's going to try and make a statement. And if he clips him, it's over. You won't be able to tell McGregor nothing because he will be the king of the world.”
