The loser of the rematch between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will have 30 days to trigger a clause in their contract that would guarantee a trilogy bout, promoter Frank Warren has said.

Heavyweights Fury (29-0-1, 20 KOs) and Wilder (42-0-1, 41 KOs) fought to a controversial split-decision draw in Los Angeles’ Staples Center in December 2018, and both men have fought and won twice since then.

Regardless of who emerges victorious from the pair’s rematch for the WBC heavyweight title in Las Vegas on 22 February, the loser will have a month to call on a third fight, according to Fury’s promoter Warren.

“The loser has 30 days to call on the rematch and that has to be accepted,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“This is probably the most anticipated heavyweight title fight in the last 20 years. It’s a fantastic fight – a big puncher against a consummate boxer. It’s a bit like Muhammad Ali versus George Foreman years ago, similar styles.

“What’s important about this fight is that they are both at the top of their game. It’s not like the young guy fighting the old guy, passing on the baton. These guys are at the top of their game and it doesn’t get any better than this if you are a boxing fan.”

Briton Fury twice rose from the canvas in the first clash with American Wilder, once in the ninth round and again in the 12th.

One judge scored the fight 114-112 in Fury’s favour, one scored it 115-111 for Wilder, and the other had it 113-113.
