Ben Hawes, with a 60th-minute goal, ensured that England left Barcelona last night in good spirits following their 1-1 draw against Spain, the favourites to win the European Cup starting in the Catalan city on 1 September.

England, who were thrashed 4-1 by Spain on Friday evening, yesterday fought back with much fortitude after going down to a 23rd-minute goal at a penalty corner scored by the Spanish captain, Juan Escarre, and well deserved their draw.

Pakistan beat Argentina 6-5 in a thrilling game in the Rabobank Champions Trophy in Amstelveen, Holland, yesterday. The high scoring continued as the Dutch hosts chalked up their second win of the weekend, beating Australia 5-3 in another thriller.
