Despite the urgings of a capacity crowd at their new $1.6bn (£1bn) stadium, the self-styled Super Bowl favourites were second-best throughout a sloppy season-opener.
In Monday night's other game, the Kansas City Chiefs shocked their AFC West rivals, the San Diego Chargers, 21-14.
