Beth Tweddle claimed two gold medals in an hour at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Birmingham yesterday. She won uneven bars and floor gold medals in Milan 12 months ago and successfully defended both titles at the National Indoor Arena.

A flawless uneven bars routine saw the Briton triumph with a score of 15.875, winning by a margin of 0.825 for a third European title on the apparatus.

Tweddle, 25, then scored 14.825 to win on the floor, the event in which she is world champion. Tweddle, who also won team silver yesterday, has experienced some mixed results on the uneven bars because of the difficulty of her routines.

She was world and European champion in 2006 and finished fourth at the Beijing Olympics, but fell as she attempted to reclaim the world title in London last October.
