Rowing: GB mourns Beijing silver-winning cox Nethercott after death at 35
Monday 28 January 2013
Acer Nethercott, the cox for Great Britain's silver medal-winning rowing eights at the Beijing Olympics, has died at the age of 35.
The cause of his death has not yet been announced. A spokesman for the Great Britain rowing team said: "Today we mourn his passing."
Nethercott helped Oxford to Boat Race wins in 2003 and 2005 but lost to Cambridge in 2004 after a clash of blades. He was in contention to cox the men's eight for London 2012 before the role was given to Phelan Hill. Great Britain went on to win bronze, finishing behind Canada and gold medal winners Germany.
GB Rowing tweeted: "Keen, eager & spirited like his name. Great member of GB Rowing Team. Thoughts are with family."
