As expected Farrant won the open there on Cheltenham Foxhunters fourth Oneminutetofive, the 1-3 favourite, but was forced to a dead-heat by Springford ridden by Dominic Alers-Hankey. Farrant was also successful on Baldara in the restricted while Burton had a double at the North Staffordshire on last year's John Corbett runner-up Coole Venture in the open and promising youngster Jackson in the confined.

Free Gift, a six-year-old trained by Sally Alner and probably the best novice to emerge this season, kept his unbeaten record intact when extending his winning sequence to five at Badbury Rings.

There are 12 meetings today and two tomorrow when the High Peak at Flagg Moor, near Buxton in Derbyshire, returns after a three-year lapse. The members' race is run over stone walls at this scenic course, the highest in the country, and reputedly there have been only two changes to this unique event since it was established 112 years ago. The first was in 1936, when the distance was reduced by a mile to three and a half miles, and the other was seven years ago when the start was moved to the village of Flagg.
