Hull put Gleeson on sick list with 'stress-related' illness

The turbulent career of Martin Gleeson has taken another turn with Hull's confirmation that they have put him on sick leave to deal with a stress-related illness.

The 31-year-old former Great Britain centre joined the club in April after being released by Wigan. He agreed an 18-month contract, but has missed Hull's last two matches amid rumours that he had been sacked.

The Hull coach, Richard Agar, denied that version of events earlier this week, but admitted that Gleeson was ill. The nature of that illness became a little clearer yesterday with the revelation that it is stress-induced.

Gleeson has been a regular in the Hull side and the club, whilst asking for his privacy to be respected, has emphasised that it still regards him as one of its players.

Another international centre will be missing from his team tonight, as an ankle injury has ruled Michael Shenton out of St Helens' side to play Warrington.

Saints have allowed Scott Moore to return to training after telling him to stay away when he was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and he could play against the Wolves. "We have brought him back to training whilst the law of the land deals with him," said the St Helens coach, Royce Simmons.
