Rhinos quick to sign talented youngsters

Leeds Rhinos have signed seven England Under-16 internationals, three of them on dual-code contracts that will also enable them to play for their sister rugby union team, the Leeds Tykes.

Chaz I'Anson, David Doherty and James Endersby are among 11 of the country's top youngsters snapped up by Leeds, who have won the academy championship for the last seven years.

Four of the players are from Hunslet Parkside, the amateur club which produced the former Great Britain captain Garry Schofield.

The Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington said: "The hard work and dedication of the coaches at the amateur and schools level in Leeds is certainly beginning to bear fruit."

The Australian half-back Dane Dorahy has signed with Halifax till the end of the season after scoring 46 points in the first four matches of his trial spell with the club.

York City have signed the Scotland international scrum-half Scott Rhodes and prop Andy Burland. Rhodes, 23, has signed a one-year contract after a spell at Dewsbury while Burland, 25, has joined them on a month's loan from Doncaster.

The Knights have parted company with former Hull stand-off Scott Yeaman.
