The Super League champions, Leeds, are still in the hunt for this year's title, but they were given a real fright by Wakefield on Saturday.

The Wildcats led twice in the first half, through Ben Cockayne and Lee Smith, the former Rhino, with only two tries from Rob Burrow keeping Leeds in touch. Wakefield were still in with a chance deep into the second half, before Leeds pulled away to win by a flattering 42-20.

Ben Jones-Bishop completed a hat-trick, while Danny McGuire's try made him the first player to score 200 in Super League, beating former team-mate Keith Senior's total of 199.

Leeds now go to Perpignan to play Catalan Dragons on Friday night, after the French side were soundly beaten 46-6 at Wigan. George Carmont scored a hat-trick to ensure that the league leaders would have next weekend off.

They are joined on a rest weekend by St Helens, surprise 28-6 winners at Warrington. Saints' 20-year-old winger, Tom Makinson, led the way with two tries and four goals. There was also a high-impact contribution off the bench from Sia Soliola.

Warrington hope to have the injured forwards, Ben Westwood and Ben Harrison, fit for their second chance on Saturday.
