Round-up: Huby pounces for Tigers to turn tables and bring end to Salford's winning streak

Salford's winning run ended at three matches as they were pipped at the post by Castleford yesterday. The in-form City Reds were on their way to their fourth victory when Sean Gleeson's try made it 30-22 with time running out.

The struggling Tigers, however, found some fight to snatch a precious win. Their captain, Danny Orr, who started the game on the bench, completed a rare hat-trick of tries and, in the last minute, Craig Huby followed Rangi Chase's kick to score the try that clinched a 34-30 win that will lift much of the gloom at Cas.

Wigan kept a firm grip on top place in Super League with a 36-14 victory at the Catalan Dragons. George Carmont's two second-half tries were crucial, but it was not all good news for the Warriors. Welsh prop Gil Dudson could be out for as long as six months with ankle ligament damage, while Brett Finch has announced that he is going home to Australia at the end of the season.

Wigan are expected to step up their pursuit of Chase, while their coach, Shaun Wane, lamented the loss of Dudson, a forward in whom he has seen a rapid improvement.

At the other end of the table, London Broncos moved off the bottom spot, at the expense of Widnes, who they beat 28-24 with Antonio Kaufusi's late try.

Warrington had their match against Leeds won in the first half-hour, when they piled up 30 unanswered points. Gareth O'Brien and Chris Riley scored two tries apiece and, although the Rhinos staged something of a fightback to eventually lose 37-18, there was no sign of an end to their current uncertainties.

They lost Brent Webb and Ian Kirke to injuries, but the Warrington coach, Tony Smith, expects Brett Hodgson to be fit to captain the Exiles against England on Saturday, despite limping off with a tight hamstring.

It was one-way traffic at Langtree Park, where a weary-looking Bradford shipped 54 points against St Helens. Young centre Josh Jones, who agreed a new contract last week, led the way with a hat-trick of tries, with Paul Wellens and Jonny Lomax claiming two each.
