Smith may return to bail out Leeds
Leeds, the injury-ravaged Super League champions, could borrow their former player Lee Smith back from Wasps to ease their crisis. Smith switched codes after playing for England in last autumn's Four Nations. As a league utility back of proven versatility, he would be a valuable reinforcement for the Rhinos, even if only in the short term.
The Rhinos, who play the league leaders Wigan on Friday, have confirmed that the England captain, Jamie Peacock, has damaged ligaments in his foot. They were already without nine members of their first-team squad when three players made their debuts against Hull KR last weekend.
The Catalan Dragons have agreed to release Adam Mogg from the remaining 18 months of his contract, so that he can return to Australia. The club has admitted its interest in Danny Brough, whose move from Wakefield to Huddersfield appears to be in limbo.
Sheffield Eagles have submitted a formal complaint to the RFL over the refereeing of Warren Turley in the recent Championship fixture against Widnes.
