The new Gillingham manager, Tony Pulis, yesterday made his ninth signing since taking over last month when he agreed to pay Queen's Park Rangers pounds 50,000 for the striker, Dennis Bailey.

Birmingham City are giving a trial to Aki Hyrylainen, a centre-back available at pounds 250,000 from HJK Helsinki.

Jurgen Klinsmann, Bayern Munich's former Tottenham striker, will be out of action for a month after tearing a tendon in his club's opening Bundesliga match last weekend.

Internazionale, the Italian club who are keen on Eric Cantona, are selling their Uruguyan international striker, Ruben Sosa, to the German champions, Borussia Dortmund, for pounds 1.3m.

Freddy Rincon, the Colombian international midfielder, yesterday signed a three-season contract with the Spanish champions, Real Madrid.
