Mediate wins Pebble Beach Invitational

Mediate, who earned dlrs 60,000, took the lead Sunday with a birdie on the 15th hole, hitting a 7-iron shot within 3 feet (just under 1 meter) of the hole. He finished with a 6-under 282 total.

"With the U.S. Open coming next year to Pebble Beach, this can't help but boost my confidence," Mediate said.

Sorenstam closed with a 69.

"To shoot 69 at Pebble Beach - hey, I'm delighted," the Swedish star said. "I'd like to show them (the male players) that I can play, too. And I think I did that."

Tom Lehman and Loren Roberts closed with 71s to tie for third at 284.

Pebble Beach Invitational Scores Sunday after the final round of the Callaway Pebble Beach Invitational Pro-Am, played on three par-72 courses, 6,840-yard (6,224-meter) Pebble Beach, 6,859-yard (6,242-meter) Spyglass Hill and 6,278-yard (5,713-meter) Del Monte.
