Grace Park claimed her first Major title when she birdied the final hole for a 69 to hold off her fellow South Korean, Aree Song, to win the Nabisco Championship here yesterday.

Song, at just 17, had made a late bid for victory when she holed a monster putt at the last for an eagle and a 70. But Park kept her cool and rolled home a six-foot putt for a birdie and the $240,000 (£133,000) prize.

Michelle Wie, the 14-year-old Hawaiian, finished fourth on seven under after a 71. It equalled the best amateur performance in the championship and bettered her tie for ninth last year. "My goal was to finish in the top five and I have achieved it," she said.

Britain's Catriona Matthew also had a good final day. She shot 70 and tied for fifth, five shots behind the winner. It was the Solheim Cup Scot's eighth top 10 finish in a Major in the past five years.

The World No 1, Annika Sorenstam, closed with a 69 and tied for 13th on three under and it ended her dream of becoming the first player to win all four Majors in one year.
