Who is the coolest?

For once, Miguel Angel Jimenez is not the coolest man on the golf course. That mantle has been passed down to fellow cigar enthusiast, Michael Jordan. The greatest basketball player has been spotted following the US team at Gleneagles, so the Ryder Cup’s website ran a simple poll, asking who is cooler? Unfortunately for Europe’s vice captain, ‘MJ’ won the vote emphatically, by nearly three to one.

Seve remembered

A heart-warming scene to start the day. For good luck Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia touched an image of Seve Ballesteros on a wall as they made their way to the first tee.

Stenson’s on song

Henrik Stenson is quickly emerging as the cult hero of the European team, so much so he had an eight-man choir serenading him at Gleneagles yesterday. The choir, known as The Guardians of the Cup, have been spotted dressed head to toe in the yellow and blue of Sweden, signing the songs by those other popular Swede’s ABBA, but changing the lyrics to take in their favourite player.

“Thank you Henrik Stenson, the golf you’re playing...” they sang. Just so he didn’t feel left out, Lee Westwood got a version of The Beatles’ “Hey Jude” sang in his honour. “Lee, Lee, Lee...”

Furyk and Poulter on Rocky road

They may be on opposing teams, but Jim Furyk and Ian Poulter have a common taste in music. Both of the players answered “Eye Of The Tiger” by Survivor, the stirring anthem from Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky” as the music they would like to hear when walking out for the first tee.
