Juve's germane retort

It was all very confusing. Juventus, forced to play in Milan after a dispute over their own stadium, escaped with a 2-2 draw from the "home" first leg of their Uefa Cup semi-final against Germany's Borussia Dortmund, but only thanks to a German scoring their 88th-minute equaliser after two Germans, who used to play for Juve, had put them 2-1 down.

It was Jrgen Kohler who bagged Juve's late equaliser, bringing the ball down coolly and firing it past Dortmund's goalkeeper Stefan Klos. The former Juventus players, Stefan Reuter and Andy Mller, had earlier scored for Dortmund, who were beaten 6-1 by Juventus in the 1993 Uefa Cup final. Roberto Baggio had replied with a penalty in between after Fabrizio Ravanelli had been flattened.

Kohler's goal was not the end of the drama. Juve's Moreno Torricelli was shown the red card in the last minute for a second foul.

Parma capitalised on two defensive errors in the other semi-final to head for a third successive European final with a 2-1 away win over Bayer Leverkusen.
