Lacrosse: Americans retain command
America maintained their stranglehold on the world championships by overwhelming Australia in the final at Gigg Lane, Bury, writes Myles Hodgson. In doing so they made amends for the only blemish on their record as undisputed lacrosse kings when the tournament was last staged in England - their only world championship final defeat was against Canada at Stockport in 1978. America, the only side to have appeared in all seven finals tournaments, never looked likely to slip up this time. By half-time they had established an 11-5 advantage and from that base, began eroding any remaining Australian resistance. They scored 10 further goals to Australia's two in the final two quarters.
