Letter: Hammam must be punished
Sir: Regarding 'Hammers act on Hammam words' (Independent, 16 August), I was absolutely disgusted when I read about Wimbledon owner Sam Hammam scribbling obscene messages on the dressing-room wall at Upton Park prior to their opening Premiership clash with West Ham.
Although tomfoolery and mickey-taking play an important role in attaining team spirit, Hammam's actions were nothing short of sheer vandalism, and he has set a bad example to football supporters up and down the country. I hope the FA take strong action in this case; once again the reputation of football has been tarnished by a mindless minority, but it is perhaps even less welcome when that minority is a man in charge of a club rather than a 'handful of hooligans'.
Yours faithfully,
ROBERT LOVE
