LETTER : Violence in rugby
From Mr R Morrison
Sir: I read with interest Graham Kelly's statement concerning the violence during the the FA Cup semi-final replay between Manchester United and Crystal Palace and am forced to compare the Rugby Football Union's fortnight of inaction following the Bath v Wasps Courage league match. Several times we were shown, on Rugby Special, a replay of a sequence in which Mike Catt was seen deliberately kicking a grounded opponent in the back.
This unprovoked attack contrasts with Roy Keane's retaliatory kick. Acts of violence, which would attract police attention in the Premier League, are now commonplace in rugby union.
Yours,
R A MORRISON
